TONY'S STORY

My name is Tony Huerta, I was born and raised in Brady, TX. I am 38 years old. I have a beautiful wife of 12 years. Together we have a 4 year old daughter and a 10 month old daughter. I was your typical teenager in a small town. I was always bored and looking for some form of excitement. At 16, I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior and have never looked back. I left Brady after graduation for Odessa, Texas and soon took on my first job as a youth minister in Kermit. I have since served churches in Brady, Sweetwater, and Junction Texas.

This is where my life starts to take a dramatic turn. On November 20, 2007, I received a phone call that would change my life forever! I was told by my mother that my dad had passed away suddenly while working. I resigned my position as a youth minister in Junction in April 2008, and moved my family to Brady to continue my dad's septic pumping business. This is the most humbling job I have ever had. I had been working in this industry until November 2008, when I received another life changing phone call. On November 11, 2008, I recevived a phone call from my doctor saying that I had cancer in my throat. I have finished intense chemotherapy and the maximum dose of radiation I can have. After all this treatment I went right back to work. I also took on a bivocational Pastor's position in the community of Lohn Texas.
In June 2010, I started losing weight and not being able to eat again. I lost 40lbs and I knew something was wrong, but didn't know what. After having to be admitted in the hospital we found out that the cancer was back and had spread around my heart. So the fight began once again! That brings us to today. I have been a minister and youth communiator for 20 years now and have met people from all across our great state and country. The phone calls started to come in. We decided to start blog to keep everyone informed, not realizing that I would soon lose my voice. At this time I cannot speak correctly. There is a tumor in my throat that is affecting my ability to speak; so they think. We don't know if this is permanent or temporary. Thank you for reading my story and God Bless you!
